Despite the rise in popularity of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and iPad, and the rise in interest in tablet PCs generally, the Kindle e – book reader is more than holding its own. In terms of sales, the Kindle is the best selling product Amazon has ever had, and has sold more units than the novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The popularity of the Kindle can be accounted for by how easy it is to read books and documents. This was highlighted in an ad for the Kindle which showed a bikini clad girl reading her Kindle in sunlight, while an iPad wielding guy struggled to read the work on his iPad. A point Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos was quick to point out.
"Customers report using their LCD tablets for games, movies, and web browsing and their Kindles for reading sessions," he continued. "They report preferring Kindle for reading because it weighs less, eliminates battery anxiety with its month-long battery life, and ... works outside in direct sunlight, an important consideration especially for vacation reading."
This would also explain why apps for devices such as iPad, iPhone, and Android tablets, do not quite measure up to the Kindle.
