Wedding Guide To Planning Your Perfect Wedding

Organising a wedding can seem like a daunting task but we at Milsom Hotels and

Restaurants are here to make it as simple and enjoyable as possible. Here you can

find a basic wedding planner to see how to create your perfect wedding. Remember

The beginnings

Once you have announced your engagement it’s time to think about the first questions.

When would you like to get married? As soon as you decide on a date you can send preliminary

‘keep this date free’ invites and confirm after you have made your bookings.What is your budget?

Do you want a lavish, large wedding or a more simple, intimate wedding?


Start thinking about the number of guests you would like and who to have as your best man, maid

of honour, ushers, and flower girls? And start delegating! - Your maid of honour and best man

particularly can be of great help.


Have a look around the several different venues on offer at Milsom Hotels and Restaurants, it’s

best to book 12 months ahead but always give us a call as we may have availability. Remember

certain venues are ideal for different sized ceremonies and receptions.

The dress:

Start looking for the dress; let your bridal shop or seamstress know your budget. Also look for the

bridesmaids, groom and the other outfits, find out if they have any particular needs or wants.

The countdown, 6 months plus


Decide on your final guest list and send out invitations and wedding lists. Also organise your

stationery, such as the table cards.


Make sure you have your final bookings for the ceremony and venue. Start to think about what

readings, hymns and songs you would like. Start to look for some suppliers you may want to use,

have a look on here to view our recommended suppliers. Book your music, flowers, cake etc. as

soon as possible to ensure availability. Finalise your food and drink menus with your caterer,

remember Le Talbooth provides excellent catering for all types of wedding.

The dress:

Organise the fittings and order the dress and outfits for everyone.Make sure you have chosen your

wedding rings.

The honeymoon:

Organise your honeymoon, and make sure your passport will be in date! Apply for your new

surname as well.

Wedding formalities:

It’s a great idea to take out wedding insurance.

3 to 6 months


Chase RSVPs and advise on accommodation for guests, we have plenty of accommodation over

our five properties. Start to organise your seating plan withMilsom Hotels and Restaurants. Plan

the Hen and Stag do and organise the favours and the thank you gifts for your bridesmaids, best

man and parents.


Double check that you have everything booked and in writing!

The dress:

Have another dress fitting. To decide on how to look on the day and book, meet your hairdresser

and go to a beauty salon.

Wedding formalities:

Organise your wedding transport and buy your marriage license. Inform your bank, doctor etc.

1 to 2 months

The guests:

Chase any missing RSVPs and then finalise numbers and table plan with Milsom Hotels and

Restaurants. Hold a ceremony rehearsal and give the best man the rings and all the contacts

that may be needed on the day.

The dress:

Have the final fittings for the dress and outfits, don’t forget the accessories and wear your shoes in!

The honeymoon:

Check your holiday bookings, do you need inoculations, foreign currency?

Write your wedding speeches

The day before

Make sure the venue is being decorated as you wish.
