Black Caviar Next Race the Lightning Stakes in Form to find Desert Gold odds

Super Sprinter Black Caviar's next race is expected to take place in the Lightning Stakes, the opening leg of the 2012 Global Sprint Challenge, and with a victory she would move to a magnificent nineteen straight wins from the start of her career.

An achievement that would tie the consecutive Australasian win streaks jointly held by Gloaming and Desert Gold, records that have held for nearly ninety-years, having been set in the early part of the nineteenth century.

To help celebrate this potentially historic race Punters Paradise will be providing-

A free Lightning Stakes form guide with detailed statistics for each runner brave enough to challenge the unbeaten champ, access to a comparison table of the best Lightning Stakes odds on offer, a Black Caviar profile that highlights her remarkable run, exclusive Lightning Stakes Day betting bonuses and more.

Lightning Stakes

The 2012 Lightning Stakes, a Group One 1000 metre weight-for-age event that jumps off on Saturday the 18th of February at the historic Flemington racecourse, offers prize money totaling $750,000.

Black Caviar is the reigning Lightning Stakes champion, having won the event by 3.25 lengths last year while running first-up after a three month spell.

Lightning Stakes Odds

Should Black Caviar back up to the Lightning Stakes, she would be the clear favourite with win odds that will likely come close to her Orr Stakes prices.

Prices which ranged from $1.05-$1.08 with one major difference, this time it’s unlikely she will bring about the huge odds disparity ($13.95) assigned to her nearest Orr Stakes rival Southern Speed, who came in at $15.00.

Among the factors that could contribute to her Lightning Stakes odds being longer include running in consecutive weeks for the first time in her career, dropping back to 1000 metres against quality horses that are rested, and the strength of the potential 2012 Lightning Stakes field.

Lightning Stakes Form

Among the announced Lightning Stakes challengers who’ll attempt to dethrone the unbeaten champ include:

- The Glyn Schofield ridden resilient Hay List, who’s run second to the mighty mare in three of their four contests, including a close call in the T J Smith when Black Caviar was forced to chase down the Statue Of Liberty gelding on her way to a 2.5 length victory.

- The Nash Rawiller ridden Fastnet Rock filly Foxwedge, who gave multiple Group One winner Sepoy his biggest challenge, when she finished within a neck’s length of the Elusive Quality colt during the $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

- The Michael Rodd ridden Buffering who finished second to Black Caviar in the 1200 metre Group One $1million Patinack Farm last up in November.

Other potential Lightning Stakes rivals include Flemington straight track specialist Temple of Boom, to be ridden by Danny Nikolic, the Dwayne Dunn ridden Secret Flyer, the Glen Boss ridden Lone Rock, the Brad Rawiller ridden Phelan Ready, and Metallurgical to be ridden by the in form jockey Craig Williams.
